The Chinarose Chows

Pedigree Database FAQ

Help with Search:

  • I can't find what I am looking for?

When searching the pedigree database you should use the base kennel name. For example, use chinarose, not chinarose's. If you are not quite sure of the spelling, or perhaps the spelling is wrong in the database you can use wildcards as described below.

  • I am not quite sure how something is spelled. How can I search for the pedigree?

You can use the * character to match anything. To find all names that start with china type china* in the search box. For names that have china anywhere in the name try *china* or try china*rose.

  • I want to specify a more complicated search to return more or fewer names. How can I do more advanced searches?

You can also use boolean operators (and,or,not) to add additional search terms. For example chinarose and lan-chu will return all dogs with both search terms in the registered name. You can also restrict the search by saying chinarose not wild which will return all of the chinarose names except those with wild in the name.

Help with Printing:

  • Printing doesn't work well (or not at all) with Netscape. How can I fix it?

The Netscape browser is very fragile and it is very likely that you will never get a satisfactory result attempting to print using Netscape. For best results use of Internet Explorer 4.5 or better is suggested.

  • My pedigrees don't print on one page. They print on 2 or more pages. How do I get them to fit on a single page?

On a Macintosh go to "Page Setup" under the File Menu and use the "Scaling" option. Set it to 80% first. If that does not work then try an even smaller number such as 75%. Then when printing make sure you click the "Fit to Page" box on the Print Dialog.

On a PC print try using the 4 generation pedigree feature or try using legal size paper. You can also try adjusting the font size (text zoom) under the "View" menu in your browser.
